Dynamics in the Middle East are Shifting, but in which Direction?

The dynamics of the Middle East are changing. From a protracted pandemic to an increase in Chinese interest and influence in the region and general fatigue in the West from protracted military conflicts, the region today presents both threats and opportunities that are very different from what they were a few years ago.

The Cipher Brief spoke with the expert Norm Rolls, who served as the former National Intelligence Officer for Iran at ODNI – and now travels regularly to the region for meetings with high-level officials in several countries – to get his take on how he sees the evolution of the region, the dynamics behind it, the new role of the United States and where problems and events are most likely heading.

“The Cipher Brief has become the most popular medium for former intelligence officers; no media outlet even comes close to The Cipher Brief in terms of the number of articles published by alumni. – Sept. 2018, Studies in Intelligence, Vol. 62 No. Access all of Cipher Brief’s national security-focused expert information by becoming a Cipher Brief Subscriber + Member.
